I find I’m much more motivated to do arts and craft projects when a holiday is just around the corner. Anyone else? These fizzing hearts from The Pinterested Parent were a big hit with all my ages.
I laid out watercolor paper hearts on a foil lined cookie tray. I think any thick paper would work. We sprinkled baking soda on the hearts and filled cups with a mixture of vinegar and food coloring. In hindsight I’m wondering if liquid watercolors would have made the colors a little more vibrant.
My kids took turns using a dropper (we had one in our science kit) to drop colored vinegar onto the baking soda hearts. This chemical reaction never gets old!
This afternoon we got out construction paper, glue, scissors, and googly eyes to make valentine animals! This is a popular project for good reason – it has high interest return and incorporates some great cutting practice. It’s a perfect stay inside day project! We got some ideas from Easy Peasy and Fun, and made them with our own style.
