How I Organize Craft Supplies

Ah the ever-accumulating craft supplies! As both a teacher and now a mom I have gathered a fair amount of these over the years. I have a hard time getting rid of them, because it seems whenever I think we are done with them or don’t need them anymore I go to the store to buy that very item again the next month. Organizing the supplies can very quickly get out of hand. I have tried drawers, bins, cabinets, and every time I end up having a hard time knowing where those pom-poms or googly eyes are. Relatable?

This is a system I have used for several years now, and I have found for me it is the easiest way to keep the smaller and easiest to lose items organized.

I use a clear over-the-door shoe rack, and hang it on the back of our office door where my husband is working from home. Another good place for this would be the back of a coat closet, linen closet, or any door that is not regularly accessed by kids.

The shoe rack does not hold all my supplies, but it does hold the smallest, easiest to lose ones or the ones I use most often. The pockets are surprisingly big, and I love being able to see what I have in a glance. The accessibility means I am able to do more projects with my kids because I’m not digging through bins to find what I need.

These are supplies I have accumulated over the years – from teaching, making crafts with my kids, birthday parties, etc. Perhaps you’re wondering: what types of supplies are great to have on hand? Note: These links are affiliate links. I often buy my supplies at a craft store, Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, or Target. Here are a few I find I use often in my collection.

These are some supplies I keep on hand that are too big to fit in the shoe rack and I store elsewhere.

Another way I store art supplies we use regularly for school.
